How we compared HIPAA software for small health tech
We read each vendor's pricing page on November 5, 2026, and its own AWS Marketplace listing where the site shows no price. We opened a free account at Accountable and a free trial at Compliancy Group; the others have no free way in. Only Accountable and Secureframe print a price on their own sites.
The catch: HIPAA has no certificate, but buyers ask for proof
There is no official HIPAA certification. What hospitals and partners ask for is a risk analysis, policies, training, signed business associate agreements (BAAs) and, more and more, a third-party assessment report or a SOC 2. That assessment is billed apart: audit firms publish HIPAA assessment fees from $2,000 for small teams.
What to check before you choose
- HIPAA only, or SOC 2 next? Accountable and Compliancy Group are built around HIPAA. Secureframe, Drata and Vanta add SOC 2 and ISO 27001 when you need them.
- Can you store health data in it? Sprinto's own terms bar storing sensitive personal information, which they define to include data concerning health. Read the terms before you put patient data in any tool.
- Seats and contract. Accountable's Basic plan includes 15 employees; extra seats cost $9 to $19 a month. Its terms say a 12-month minimum, though the pricing page offers monthly billing.
Accountable
HIPAA only, with prices on its site: Basic $169, Plus $254 and Pro $679 a month billed yearly, or $199, $299 and $799 billed monthly. Every plan has risk assessment, policies, training and BAA tracking. The 7-day trial of a paid plan needs a card; a free account needs none but keeps the work locked. Pen testing on Pro is marked Coming Soon.
Compliancy Group
Built for healthcare, HIPAA and OSHA, with guided onboarding and a 14-day trial that needs only an email. Price on request.
Secureframe
Covers HIPAA alongside SOC 2 and ISO 27001, with a starting price on its own pricing page: $7,500 a year for Fundamentals, one framework.
Drata and Vanta
Both cover HIPAA alongside SOC 2. Drata's Foundation takes HIPAA as its one framework, $15,000 a year for up to 50 employees on its AWS listing; Vanta's Essentials is $14,000 a year for 1 to 20 employees there.
Sprinto
Covers HIPAA as a framework, but its terms bar storing data concerning health in the service. Fine for a SOC 2 at a health tech company that keeps patient data elsewhere; check with Sprinto first.
Bottom line
Start with Accountable for HIPAA alone, or try Compliancy Group first if you want guided help. When an enterprise customer asks for SOC 2, move to a multi-framework platform such as Secureframe or Drata.
